Not much to be
said about this great lens that you haven't heard before. It's well made, has
fast, slient USM focusing and life size magnification. It has remarkable BOKEH,
gives a reasonable amount of comfort space when shooting insects, and even works
great for portraits with it's 2.8 aperture. This lens has a "focus limiter"
switch which allows faster auto focusing for normal use. Coupled with
a Kenko Pro 300 teleconverter, all auto functions work fine, and gives even more
versatility. Note: this lens will not work with Canon's
EF 1.4 & 2X converters. And while
Canon doesn't recommend using the EF 1:1 Life Size Converter, I've found it
works well in manual focus without damage. But use at own risk if you do it
yourself. When using some converters, it's necessary to use manual focusing to
avoid camera lock up. If using auto focus, "err 99" will result. If this
happens, turn your camera off, and back on and the error should
clear.

To maintain the sharpest images, extension tubes offer added magnification
without loss of optical quality, but with cost in focus distance. Below is
a chart showing the additional magnification gained, and lens to subject
distance when used with Canon Extension Tubes. "After market" tubes render
similar results.
